Welcome to Mobile Computer Magazine. The term mobile computer in the largest sense is any computer that can travel with you – the opposite of a stationary or desktop computer. Wireless Internet, extended battery life and more comfortable ergonomics have been factors driving this increase in popularity. In mobile computers, the smart phone is the current market leader. Expect the evolution of mobile computers to continue to change, however. Expect the smart phone to merge into a wearable mobile computer next, and eventually become hardwired into our bodies. Several designs have been proposed.
Here is a wearable computer envisioned by Nokia…
The most common forms of mobile computers currently in use are:
* The laptop (or notebook) with a flat panel display and keyboard, requiring a seated position and both hands.
* The tablet PC (emerging iPad and others), which essentially is a laptop operated with a touch-sensitive screen.
* The sub-notebook – which has a full keyboard (though often in reduced size) and about a 12″ screen.
* The wearable computer with hands free interface, with usually two-way voice capability.
